Flying back then ...
Flying back then was certainly different tan today. First off the Stewardesses were prettier, friendlier and seemed less stressed. Everyone was less stressed! Planes were more comfortable, security was much easier and the food was better. Now it's ugly stewardesses called flight attendants, Gay stewards abound, tight seating, poor food, delays and long security lines. Major airports look like a 3rd world meeting at the league of nations. Tribal people all wrapped in their "garb". Sucks!

@minutemanIV Well, The thing is, Cabin Crew is now one of the worlds most sought after jobs in the world, One that only people with a great education and Qualifications as well as a clean criminal record can get, The most appeling part of the job is the fact that you can travel the world and be paid to do it, Also people who want Jobs as Pilots sometimes start out as Cabin Crew to build a loyalty with an airline and therefore be offered jobs first. It's actually a good job to do!

@ThomsonAirwaysStaff You make them (and one gets the impression that you're one of them, too) sound like sociopaths, but I take your point that they're just human beings and they can be vindictive and can let their hair down behind the curtains. Apart from the obvious answer "Somebody has to do it", I can't help thinking why men would go for such a job. Lack of academic qualifications, perhaps?

@minutemanIV I wouldnt expect 2 see any sign of emotion from them, They are their to do a job, It's behind the galley curtain when they get naughty, And although they are professional, They are still people and If you do amything stupid, They'll tell the rest of the crew! And If u piss them off, They'll make your flight hell! Why? because they can! and If they have Complaints Forms, They most likely won't hand them to their supervisor! Still Some of the photo's of their crews are obscene!

@ThomsonAirwaysStaff On a recent BA flight from Edinburgh to London, a male member of the Cabin Crew was in charge of my section and was serving the snacks. I tried to detect the slightest hint of embarrassment on his face for the poofy job he was doing, but I found none. Just then I realised that men who choose to become trollie dollies have something I certainly don't : nerves of steel and a complete lack of consideration for what other people might think about them.That takes some skill.Bravo

@minutemanIV Yeah, but some people find that offensive, Male Flight Attendants get enough jokes made out of them, people saying they do a womans job when the first F/A"s were male. The professional term is Cabin Crew Member.

@tonybklyn As much as I hate how the airlines treat people, I have to say that this happened bec of the "bargain basement" mentality of people. Americans are still better than the Europeans though. On any US Airways transatlantic flight, here's how you can tell the Americans from the Europeans... US Airways charges $5 for headphones for the inflight movie. The Americans grumble and pay up the $5 while the Europeans bring their own headphones in advance with them :)

There are no "flight attendants" in my world! There are stewards, stewardesses, actors, actresses, instructors, and instructresses. I recently saw an actress interviewed on TV. I forget her name, but the TV showed something like, "Jane Doe, Actor". HA!
